Dr. Al-Zahrani obtained his Medical Degree MBBS and Diploma in Applied Epidemiology from King Saud University in 1992 and 1995. Then he obtained his MPH from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2000, and a PhD in cancer genetic epidemiology from the University of Cambridge in 2005.
He started his work experience at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH&RC) in Riyadh as the head of Epidemiology Research Unit in 2005. In February 2011 he was appointed as the Executive Director for the Gulf Center for Cancer Control and Prevention (GCCCP) with a mission to generate and update regional strategies for cancer control and prevention in the GCC countries.
Dr. Al-Zahrani was promoted to principal clinical scientist / senior consultant in August 2013 at KFSH&RC. He was elected as the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Councilor for the International Epidemiological Association (IEA) for two terms (2008-2014) and elected president for the Saudi Epidemiology Association (SEA) between April 2009 and April 2015.
